FASHION NEVER SLEEPS
To me, Budapest is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever had the privilege of visiting. I guess the word "visiting" doesn't do it justice, considering I live here...but even after countless summers and winter breaks spent in this city and having lived here permanently the last eight months, it still seizes to amaze me. Every part is different; there is the classic downtown with the colorful buildings and small apartments on busy streets. We have the old part of the city with its beautiful structures and pre-war aura. We also have the inner city, which I swear sometimes reminds me of Paris (another favorite city I hope to visit again). Here, unlike where I grew up in the States, I feel like I have the opportunity to express myself and be who I am, fashion and otherwise. Often times in the States I felt if I didn't conform to what the stereotypical clothing attire was I would be, well, looked at differently. I can't tell you the amount of times I got comments similar to 'oh you look so European in that outfit'. Like, what does that even mean??? What constitutes being European?? Why was what I was wearing not American? Always felt strange to me to label someone based on their clothing, especially in a country where there is so much diversity. But new city, new me, I am ready to express myself in a way I hadn't felt possible until now in the capital where people are always on the go, something is always happening, and fashion definitely never sleeps.
