ELLE FASHION WEEKEND IN BUDAPEST

ELLE FASHION WEEKEND IN BUDAPEST

I have always been a huge fan of fashion week. Since Instagram became so popular, I have spent countless hours looking at the images uploaded by various bloggers, celebrities, and models during New York, London, Milan, and Paris Fashion Weeks. The colors, fabrics, beautiful people- it was everything I wish I was and the places were where I wish I could be. After moving to Budapest, the capital of Hungary, I found that it might be a good idea to try to involve myself in the country's fashion world, which is more attainable for a no-name blogger like myself since this is a small country. Although here we don't have a whole fashion week, we have a fashion weekend where some of the top Hungarian designers, and even foreign designers, share their new collections.

I decided to buy 2 tickets, and take whoever would come with me. My boyfriend declined the offer, so I got one of my good friends to come with me because I figured she would enjoy the free goodies and drinks. The event was at the Varkert Bazaar which is by the Buda Castle and meant to be a combination of some sort of a garden, lookout terrace, and place to hold events. After getting very lost, we decided to follow a few girls we saw taking selfies and dressed in some Hungarian designers I recognized. As we walked into the event, we were greeted by well-dressed girls who were assessing everyone's tickets. We were given each the new Elle magazine as a gift as well as a program flyer for the event. The first large room we walked into held all the promotional items: giveaways, free drinks, perfume counter, makeup and hair giveaways. Of course, we went around to every place we could and picked up all of the free products that we could; going back for gummy bears twice. There were a lot of people and everyone seemed to be in a good mood, walking around and observing all of the cool items.

Beforehand, I had looked up a few shows I wanted to attend not really knowing what to expect at a Fashion show, let alone one in Budapest. I was cautiously optimistic. The first show we attended was Schwarzkopf where it was less about fashion and more about the hairstyles for the season which included an array of choppy short bobs, blond accents, and sleek designs. The fashion show I looked forward to seeing most was Nubu, which is a pair of Hungarian designers. The new collection included a very loose and Asian-inspired theme of flowy dresses and shirts, patterned outfits, and flat platform shoes. The collection was rather beautiful and included several pieces I myself would wear.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the experience, and although there wasn't a massive amount of fashion as compared to a Paris fashion week, I really think the Hungarian fashion industry is starting to expand in a positive direction. With this in mind, I decided on a more casual look of jeans, a black and white poncho from H&M's new collection, and pointy Steve Madden lace pumps, which gave my outfit an effortlessly chic look. #dianasays
