BIRTHDAY SUIT

I had one of the best birthdays I have had in a while. The love I felt from all of my friends and family was so enormous that it really made me feel so happy to be alive. Part of the birthday celebration involved a night out with my friends, which my boyfriend and best friend planned. With this type of an event comes the responsibility of picking out an outfit that really looks amazing. I had a few outfit choices in mind, having thought about this for weeks before the actual day of the party. I ended up deciding on an all white outfit that I thought would look so fabulous and really stand out. Unfortunately, as the day approached, the weather application on my phone kept showing the temperature dropping, and the chance of rain increasing. I was completely bummed as I realized that my plan to wear a short dress and open-toed heels was slowly looking more and more impossible. I decided (very maturely) not to panic and wait it out until the day arrived and make my decision then.

It's the night before and I had some free time on my hands after work and decided to try on all the possible options for the next day's party. I tried on the white dress, along with two other dresses which were "longer" and more weather appropriate. As usual, I sent pictures of each outfit, with shoes, to my mother and had her give me immediate feedback as we discussed the possible options. After a half an hour struggle of not liking anything I put on, I finally decided not to care and wear the short little white romper which I accidentally found in a small boutique (on sale) in northern California two years before. I wanted to stand out, and that was just how it was going to be.

The next day I spent a modest two hours on hair and makeup, my boyfriend shaking his head when I told him 5 minutes before we had to leave that I still need 10 minutes. After putting on my white romper dress and matching white sandals, he gave me a wide eyed and surprised look, asking if I was seriously going out like this considering how cold it was. I told him I was and that I didn't want a discussion about it. Two minutes before we are about to leave, he decides to notice that my nipples slightly hang out from the side of my dress in certain sitting positions. He wasn't going to let me out of the house without putting a bra on, and after explaining to him that wasn't an option considering the see-throughness and style of the dress (in one ear and out the other) I decided to DIY it and put some tape on my boobs so that my dress would stick to it. Just before leaving I put on the biggest and whitest faux fur coat (not particularly appropriate considering it was 60 degrees) I had in my closet, swiped on some lip gloss, and walked out the door feeling like a million bucks. I don't think I have ever worn an outfit so attention-grabbing in my life, but, I must admit, it made my birthday party that much sweeter. #dianasays
